A career in mining could mean you become a professor. Meet Patrick Taylor, Extractive Metallurgy professor at Colorado School of Mines. His lifelong journey took him from the U.S. army to the university as a student and then as a professor, culminating in 50 years in the industry! His advice to fresh mining students is “You got to observe everything. Be curious, show that you’re a good engineer and a good colleague. And I think if you’re doing those things, you can be very successful in the industry. The mining industry is essential to the United States, and good engineers are essential to the mining industry.”
